Juvenile hit in crossfire in Downtown Jacksonville shootout at NYE celebration

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Gunfire erupted at what was supposed to be a New Years Eve celebration in James Weldon Johnson Park in Downtown Jacksonville. An off duty officer was flagged down at about 1 p.m. by a person reporting that a boy was shot.

Officers located the crime scene at the park where they located the victim who was shot in the leg. His injuries were not life threatening, police said.

Investigators learned that two groups of people got into an argument at the park and two shooters started firing at each other striking the boy who was not involved in the fight, police said.

No arrests were made. Police said they are talking to two witnesses who are cooperating. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call JSO.
