Cherish Perrywinkle's mother in court fighting for two daughters

Cherish Perrywinkle

The mother of a murdered 8-year-old girl is in court Thursday fighting for custody of her other two daughters.

Rayne Perrywinkle has been in a custody battle over her daughters Destiny and Neveah ever since the Florida Department of Children and Families removed them from her home in July. She says she's just trying to keep Cherish's memory alive and move on with the family she has left.

"Despite the negativity I have from a lot of the public, when the truth comes out it will come out in the end and I stand by what I believe in. I have a long battle ahead and I have to fight for Cherish and I have to fight for all the other children and Destiny and Neveah also."

Cherish Perrywinkle was kidnapped on a Friday night in late June while on a shopping trip with her mother and Donald Smith, a registered sex offender who had just been released from prison, at the Walmart on Lem Turner Road. Cherish was found dead behind a Northside church the next morning.
