Charges dropped against former Southside pediatric dentist Howard Schneider

Former Jacksonville pediatric dentist accused of hurting children found incompetent to stand trial A pediatric dentist tells Action News that she saw signs of inadequate care by a dentist now under investigation by the state for allegations that he mistreated patients. Dr. Jodi Mason said she saw many of Dr. Howard Schneider’s (pictured) former patients there.

Jacksonville, FL — The former Southside pediatric dentist accused of harming children is no longer facing criminal charges.

Prosecutors have dropped eleven counts of Medicaid provider fraud and one count of schemes to defraud against Howard Schneider.

Schneider was found incompetent to stand trial about one year ago. The disposition document obtained by WOKV says Schneider's age of 81-years-old and the findings from prior evaluations have led the State to make this decision. The disposition further says that if Schneider "unexpectedly regains competency", they could reinstate the charges.

Schneider was arrested in November 2015, after a string of protests from parents of children who claimed Schneider performed unnecessary procedures and was injuring and hurting children. He closed his practice, and then voluntarily surrendered his license to practice in Florida in May 2015.
