A Springfield couple is brokenhearted to learn their cat was set on fire and killed this week, and police have few leads.
WOKV News obtained the police report from the incident on Monday evening. Adam Arendell told police he came back to the home on 9th Street West and noticed one of the cats didn't come running up to the porch.
He found their cat, Camus, dead in the yard with severe burns all over her body. Most of her hair was burned off.
Investigators found a bottle of lighter fluid in a patch of burned grass near Arendell’s home.
Police talked to several neighbors who said they didn't see anything unusual.
Amy Garrett shared her sorrowful story on the History Springfield Community's Facebook page.
She wrote, "Today I came home to the charred corpse of our beautiful blue tortoiseshell cat, Camus."
Garrett described Camus as the "she was the sweetest, gentlest little soul" and warned her neighbors to "Please, please, please take your pets inside. Pure evil is loose in our neighborhood."
Friends of the victims are gathering money for a reward.
