CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE 5/6/2021 8:45 p.m.:
The GBI released body camera footage from the shooting Thursday evening.
Only a small portion of the video was released, 3 minutes and 17 seconds of a 3 hour and 43 minute video.
The portion that was released shows the deputy’s entire time in the home, from entering to exiting.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has released new information following Tuesday’s deadly officer-involved shooting in Woodbine.
Federal investigators said that at approximately 4:51 a.m., the Camden County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) was executing a drug-related search warrant in the 12000 block of U.S. Highway 17.

The GBI said police made entry into the home after their knocks and calls went answered.
Upon entry, investigators say there was an exchange of gunfire between deputies and the suspects, now identified as Varshawn Lamont Brown, age 46, and Latoya Denise James, age 37.
Brown was injured and transported to the hospital and James died at the scene.

The GBI said it will conduct an independent investigation to be turned over to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
This is the 27th officer-involved shooting the GBI has reportedly been requested to investigate in 2021.

The GBI says that one person is dead and another person is injured after an officer-involved shooting in the 12000 block of U.S. Highway Tuesday morning.
GBI says no officers were hurt.
One person has died. One person is injured. No officers are injured. We will provide updates as the investigation progresses.

ORIGINAL STORY 5/4/2021:
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Camden County early Tuesday morning.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were serving a search warrant in the 12000 block of U.S. Highway 17 when an officer-involved shooting occurred.
It is unclear if the officer or the suspect were hurt in the shooting.
