Buresh: Wet season is underway

Jacksonville, Fl — Our wet season has begun. Tuesday was our third consecutive day with widespread significant rainfall. It’s a little earlier than average, which is June 1. Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says that during our wet season, just about every afternoon somewhere in NE Florida it rains, with some exceptions.

More than half of our annual rainfall occurs over the next few months - more than 28.5″ on average.

Highs today will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Onshore breezy winds will develop at 10-20 mph. A few showers are possible this afternoon as well.

Tomorrow and Friday will both be windy with a few showers developing. Winds will gust to 30+ mph in the afternoons. A lot of dry times are on the way for Memorial Day weekend. A few showers are possible as an area of low pressure develops offshore. The rip current risk will remain high through the weekend.

Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will be below average in the low 80s. Saturday looks like the ‘pick day’ of the weekend. A few mostly afternoon showers are expected for Sunday.
