Jacksonville, FL. — This December has been a complete turnaround for Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his first three seasons with the team, Jacksonville only won three games in the month of December. Now, ahead of the matchup against Houston on Sunday, the Jaguars find themselves just one win away from matching that total in the 2017 season alone.
A big reason for the turnaround is the vaunted Jaguars defense.
Another piece to the December success is Bortles’ play. Over the first two weeks of December, Bortles has completed 71 percent of his passes, averaging over 9 yards per completion. In that same time, he has thrown four touchdowns while avoiding turning the ball over, having no interceptions.
In that same time the Jaguars offensive line have only allowed one sack.
All of these things have worked together to give Jacksonville the outright lead in the AFC South at 9-4, and a 2-0 record in the month of December for the first time since the 2013 season.
Bortles and Jacksonville will try to continue their win streak this Sunday at Everbank against the Houston Texans.
