Bobcat spotted in Durbin Crossing

Jacksonville, FL — The sight of a bobcat is more common than you may think.  A property owner in Durbin Crossing shared the photo he took as a bobcat walked through the woods of his property.

Florida Fish and Wildlife tells us bobcats are found in both urban and rural settings and most people think they may be panthers.

“We get frequent reports of ‘panthers’ in north Florida and the majority of the photos that are sent to us are of bobcats. The FWC is interested in finding out if there are panthers this far north”, said FWC Public Information Coordinator Karen Parker.

There has not been a noticeable increase in bobcat sightings in our area.  FWC says the best thing people can do is pick up attractants in their yards that may be drawing animals in and do not feed the bobcats.

FWC describes the bobcat as a stealthy animal that is not often seen even though their numbers are abundant.

“Catching even a fleeting glimpse of this secretive and beautiful creature can make anyone's outdoor experience more enjoyable”, Parker said.
