FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. — Today, Fleming Island welcomes Baptist Medical Center Clay.

The new, six-story full-service, 102-bed hospital is offering an array of primary and specialty care services including Neurology, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, Oncology, Pulmonology, and Endocrinology plus a 20-room maternity center, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as well as advanced heart care and comprehensive cancer care. In addition, the hospital’s intensive care unit has the ability to become a negative pressure room instantly to control infections. There is also a Wound Care Center with two hyperbaric chambers plus an on campus lab and pharmacy.

Described as ultra-modern, the completed 300,000 square-foot, locally owned and locally goverened, not for profit hospital broke ground in November of 2020 and devoted more than one million hours to its completion. Designed for expansion, the 5th and 6th floors can be built out as needed.

Hospital President Darin Roark, BSN, MBA, RN, FACHE, described the day as amazing.

“I’m humbled and honored to be able to bring this world class Baptist health care to the folks that live here in Clay County,” he said. “As a Clay County resident, I’m excited to be able to complete the circle and to be able to take care of all of the health needs of my neighbors.”

In a recent press release, Baptist Health President and CEO Michael A. Mayo, DHA, FACHE said that “opening a full-service hospital on Fleming Island is the culmination of nearly two decades of planning and hard work.

“Baptist Health was determined to build a hospital in the growing Clay County area to expand health care choices for local residents and to give them the high level of quality patient care they deserve,” he said.

The campus also includes a coffee shop, outdoor dining, a gift shop, and a jogging path that connects to Black Creek Trail.

The $234-million investment is bringing 400 new jobs to Clay County.

The Baptist Clay Medical Campus is located on Fleming Island at U.S. 17 and Village Square Parkway.
