People came out in droves to Angie's Subs in Jacksonville Beach Friday to meet GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann.
She rolled her giant tour bus into the shop's parking lot to cheers, banners, and American flags.
After some opening remarks from FCTP officials, Bachmann stepped to the mic to chants of "U-S-A, U-S-A."
"If this is any indication," she said, "all I can say is President Obama, be prepared to be a one-term president!"
Bachmann then spoke for about 15 minutes on her plans for the country if she were elected as the next president.
"My focus is to turn the economy around. I know how to do that as a former federal tax lawyer. And to create millions of high-paying jobs in the private sector."
She shook hands and spoke to supporters for a few minutes inside, and then came outside to speak to those who could not fit inside Angie's for her first speech, backdropped by her red, white, and blue-clad tour bus.
"I am committed to the full repeal of Obamacare, the repeal of Dodd-Frank, and I want to pass the mother of all repeal bills to kill the job-killing regulations that are stymying job growth in this country."
Bachmann said she plans to come back to Jacksonville many times before the 2012 election rolls around. The event was sponsored by the First Coast Tea Party.
Supporters at the rally seemed to be on the same page with Bachmann's plans. The people I spoke to were most concerned with creating jobs, lowering taxes, turning the economy around, and downsizing government. They said Jacksonville should be an important stop for any presidential candidate on the campaign trail.
"Jacksonville is a swing city," one supporter, Ralph Laperna, told me. "We just elected a Democratic mayor for the first time in a long time. We're a pretty diverse city, so I think how Jacksonville goes, the country goes."
The event was sponsored by the First Coast Tea Party.
