Award-winning 1950s Film Noir remake shot in St. Augustine comes to streaming

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Now released on streaming platforms, D.O.A. is remake of a 1950s classic movie, featuring the iconic landmarks of the nation’s oldest city, St. Augustine.

Director Kurt St. Thomas is a St. Johns County resident and his film includes local attractions such as the St. Augustine Lighthouse, the Bridge of Lions, and Evergreen Cemetery.

“I broke a lot of rules making D.O.A., and I’m glad I did,” he says. “The first rule I broke was to make a movie in the first place, and then to make a film noir, which they don’t make anymore.”

The filmmaker recreated a post-war ambiance with an ominous soundtrack to match the original black-and-white film.

The film tells the story of Frank Bigelow, a detective who learns he’s been poisoned and only has days to live.

Bigelow must unravel a conspiracy to find out who wants him dead before time runs out.

D.O.A. has received multiple awards since its premiere at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival in 2022, where it won the Special Jury Award for Production, and the Spirit of Independents Award.
