St. Augustine High School student arrested for two school violence threats

St. Johns County deputies say a 14-year-old has been arrested for two threats of violence against St. Augustine High School.

The first threat happened only a few days after the Parkland high school shooting. There was a message written on a wall saying “School Shooting Happening at ___ PM Today”, according to SJSO. Then, yesterday, the message “Bomb on Campus” was written on a wall. Both incidents prompted a law enforcement response in order to ensure the campus was safe.

SJSO says they interviewed several people, searched the campus, and reviewed school video footage, to develop a person of interest. That 14-year-old student was then interviewed with a parent present, where SJSO says he admitted to being responsible for writing the messages.

The student has been arrested on two felony charges- false reporting of a bomb threat and use of a firearm in a violent manner. The student is under the Department of Juvenile Justice, so we are not naming him.

Yesterday's threat at SAHS was the third school threat for St. Johns County in two days. The others were bomb threats at Switzerland Point Middle and Bartram Trail High School.
