Atlantic Coast High School student hit and killed by car while walking to bus stop

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An Atlantic Coast High School student died Friday after being hit by a car on her way to the bus stop.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the girl was crossing the street in the 7700 block of Old Kings Road when a southbound car hit her.

The driver stopped, called police, and took the girl to a local hospital where she later died.

Right now, police don’t think speed or alcohol were a factor in the accident.

The principal of Atlantic Coast High School sent this message to families earlier today.

“As a school community, we are brokenhearted by this tragic passing, and our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and our entire Stingray community during this incredibly difficult time,” said Principal George.

Your child may be affected, even if they did not personally know the student. To assist our students and staff, specially-trained counselors and social workers are available on campus. Your child is important to our school community, and we want to do whatever we can to support them.”

Right now, police don’t think speed or alcohol were a factor in the accident.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, this is the 7th traffic fatality of 2025.
