Amelia Island: 20+ homes with structural damage

Damage estimates are still being compiled in Nassau County on Saturday afternoon.  Nassau County Emergency Management crews have been accessing damage on Amelia Island throughouot the day, and it appears there are 20+ homes that have structural damage on the south end of the island.

"Some of the folks that were allowed to go back to the island when we opened the bridge at 4pm are not going to be able to get to their house by vehicle, and will have to do that by foot", said Dave Richardson.

There was some standing water on Eagens Creek, which was under a flash flood emergency at the height of the storm.  But Richardson says the bigger problem was downed trees and power lines.

On Sunday they will begin compiling the damage reports to have a total number of damage.  There were no reported injuries or fatalities.

Richardson says they don't know how many residents stayed on the island, but there were reports of up to 3,000 who stayed.

"Once the storm started approaching we were receiving phone calls about can I now get off the island", said Richardson.

He says a few residents safely made it off Amelia Island during the storm.
