Jacksonville FL — In a statement released Friday evening, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry announced 214 JFRD firefighters are now in self-quarantine as a result of contact guidelines established by the CDC for coronavirus.
“I’ve been closely monitoring the health and safety of our firefighters since Chief Powers first informed me earlier this week that two had tested positive for the coronavirus. Our ability to protect and serve the citizens of Jacksonville is reliant on keeping our first responders healthy.” Curry says.
The mayor says the city has recently allowed retired firefighters to return to work to assist during the pandemic and he believes that option, along with other safety measures put in place by Fire Chief Keith Powers, will protect first responders while continuing to serve the city.
2. This means following CDC guidelines in the event they come into contact with anyone who tests positive for COVID-19. See my full statement below. pic.twitter.com/7yKf8ZcOxG
