“It’s never right for a parent to have to bury a child, so, and just the fact that someone would have to lose their life to gun violence is just horrible,” Mark McGuire with the anti-crime organization ‘Families of Slain Children’ told Action News Jax Monday. “So our prayers go out to the family.”
Officers found the 17-year-old victim, Ken’yade Jones, with a gunshot wound at an apartment complex. He was rushed to the hospital, where he passed away from his injuries,” a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office social media post states.

JSO homicide detectives identified LeBron Jacobs, 15, as a suspect in Jones’ death. Jacobs turned himself in last week and was charged with murder after police got a warrant for his arrest, according to JSO. Now, McGuire says something needs to be done to address the root causes of youth violence in Jacksonville.
“It is very important that we find programming services and wrap-around services for our young people so that they can stay in something positive that would probably eliminate some of this activity,” said McGuire on Monday.
There have been 20 children shot in Jacksonville so far this year according to Action News Jax records.
