FLORIDA — Representative Charlie Crist announced Tuesday that he plans to run for the governor of Florida as a Democrat.
He previously served as Florida’s 44th governor from 2007 to 2011.
Crist currently represents Florida’s 13th congressional district in the country. The district covers Pinellas County from Clearwater down through St. Pete.
He formally announced his campaign for governor in his hometown of St. Petersburg.
“Florida should be a place where hard work is rewarded, justice is equal, and opportunity is right in front of you. That’s a Florida for all — and that’s why I’m running for Governor,” Crist said in a Twitter post.
So far 11 people, including Crist, have registered to run for Florida governor. Seven are Democrats, one is Republican and three others are non-party affiliated.
