Duval County — A one-time Florida Trooper of the Year, Joshua Earrey, was in federal court Friday charged with “unlawful user or addict of controlled substances in possession of a firearm.” His bond was set at $50,000. The state confirmed Monday that Earrey’s been fired from Florida Highway Patrol.
In a U.S. District Court criminal complaint filed in Duval County, the FBI says a defendant in an unrelated case named Earrey.
The court documents show Earrey had back surgery in January and was assigned light duty status through March 2023. The informant said Earrey was addicted to pain pills., and he was buying oxycodone illegally.
The FBI says Earrey was a DEA agent and was buying oxycodone from a confidential source working with the DEA. Earrey was assigned to the confidential source as a “handling agent.”
The FBI also says they have evidence of Earrey having guns not issued to him for work.
Earrey’s family released a statement to local media saying he will check himself into rehab.
