Jacksonville — Florida State College at Jacksonville will host a free open house on Saturday at the Deerwood Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Faculty, program directors and student representatives will be on hand to assist students interested in furthering their education.

Break-out sessions and labs will offer both students and their families help with navigating the paperwork for admissions, financial-aid and scholarship essays. In addition to learning about FSCJ’s degrees and certifications, attendees will be able to chat with students to learn what campus life is all about.

Jacquelyn Thompson, FSCJ’s associate vice president for enrollment management, says that event will offer a straightforward track for those interested in career exploration.

“We will have people helping students with scholarship essays and student services representatives to assist students where ever they are in the enrollment life cycle,” Thompson said.

Thompson added that lottery-type scholarships will be awarded on site to those who are eligible and who complete the paperwork.

“We are going to be giving out several, $500 scholarships during the day to add up to several thousand dollars,” she continued.

“We have millions of dollars worth of scholarships that we give away every year and there is no reason why everyone couldn’t qualify for some type of scholarship or assistance, even beyond the federal aid.”

Those in attendance will also be able to enjoy free-food and entertainment.
