WOKV is learning new disturbing details in the disappearance and murder of 7-year-old Somer Thompson.
Newly released public documents were made available to the media Thrusday afternoon and include detailed accounts of Somer's death, including a 4 hour long video interview of her accused killer, Jarred Harrell speaking to investigators about her death.
The video was done in February after Harrell was arrested in Mississippi on unrelated child pornography charges.
In the video, Harrell tells detectives that he was in his mother's home on Gano Avenue in Orange Park October 19, 2009 the day Somer disappeared. He tells detectives that Somer appeared his doorway looking for his dog. He says when he approached her, she started screaming. That's when he says he put his right hand over her mouth to quiet her. That's when he says she went limp.
"I didn't really know what to do. The only thing I could think of was just to hide the body and get rid of it. So I went in the garage, and I got one of the red rubbermaid boxes, I put her in it, I closed the top on it," Harrell tells detectives.
Harrell continued on to say after he drove and disposed her body in a dumpster behind a Fleming Island restaurant, he drove home, gathered her clothes, put them in a bag, and threw them in the trash.
It wasn't until later on in the interview that detectives pressed Harrell for more information about the attempted rape of Somer.
"Is it possible that you moved her clothes to be able to see some stuff before you put her in the box?" one detective asked Harrell.
"I didn't do it purposely. If it was something more than that, I blocked it out," says Harrell.
Harrell was charged to 6 life sentences for the slaying of Somer and other charges by a Clay County judge the beginning of last year.
