Cinemark says you can B.Y.O.B. on January 19th

National Popcorn Day is on January 19th, and Cinemark Theatres are doing something so gloriously insane, I can barely contain myself.

Taking a page from their neighbors at 7-11, they’re letting you bring your own BUCKET to fill up with popcorn on the holiday.

Yes, you read that right. BUCKET. As in, potentially HUGE. (Within reason... sort of.)

I just ran across this glorious news over at Nerdist, and my mind is officially blown. Forget those wimpy little popcorn bags they usually hand out. We’re talking about serious snacking potential here.

So, what are the rules, and how do we exploit them??? Here are some simple guidelines to follow to make sure you don’t get upset by Cinemark’s Popcorn Narcs:

  • The bucket has to be “within reason,” and able to fit under the dispenser. So, leave the industrial-sized containers at home, folks. Think more along the lines of a large mixing bowl or a reasonably sized ice bucket.
  • It has to be clean and food-safe. Obviously. Don’t be gross.
  • One bucket per customer, one refill per bucket. No sharing, and no going back for seconds (unless you want to pay for another refill, which, hey, no judgment).
  • It has to be at a participating Cinemark location. Call ahead to make sure your local theater is in on the fun.

Normally, I’d be the first one to rant against some of the prices at the movie theater concession stand, but this popcorny promo will only set you back $6 (plus tax). Honestly, that’s a steal. You could easily fit the equivalent of, like, three or four regular popcorns in there. Maybe more, depending on that bucket choice.

This is the kind of deal that makes you question all your previous life choices. Why have I been settling for measly bags all these years?

A quick check of the map shows there are only 3 Cinemark theaters in town (Tinseltown, Atlantic North, and Durbin Plaza), so call ahead and maybe even grab those tickets in advance - I’m sure it’ll be a busy night at the theater for this one!
