Jacksonville — The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida mobile canteen unit is on the road and heading out to the Texas/Louisiana Gulf Coast to help with relief efforts associated with Harvey. The unit started its voyage a little late, headed out of the Salvation Army’s compound around 8:00AM. The unit was originally scheduled to leave for Texas on Monday, but they were asked to delay their deployment because of the deteriorating conditions along the gulf coast.

Major Rob Vincent with the Salvation Army of Northeast Florida spoke with our news partners Action News Jax.
“Flood waters are not like debris where we can get it moved out of the way, they’ve got to recede before we can get in.” says Major Vincent.
The mobile kitchen will bring food and water and can serve up to 1,500 meals per day.
