A 6-year-old child drowned in a retention pond in an apartment complex on Hodges Boulevard today, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Police say officers were dispatched just after 4 p.m. and found the child out of the water when they got there. First responders started CPR and transported the child to a hospital where the child was pronounced dead, according to JSO.
The child was being watched by a care giver at the time of the drowning, according to police, and detectives are talking to witnesses and trying to find surveillance video.
Right now, no foul play is suspected.
