The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce says crime is not having much of an impact on their ability to recruit businesses to the area.

With the institution of the Jacksonville Journey crime is a concern in the mayor's office.

"I think no doubt that the crime challenge we have in Jacksonville is a threat to our economy," says Mayor John Peyton.

Mayor Peyton says businesses don't want to move into or grow in an area that's considered to be unsafe.

However, John Haley, VP of the Chamber's Business Recruitment says they have not encountered that problem.

"They're not looking at the particular stories that appear on a daily or weekly basis in the Jacksonville area, they looking at the overall statistics," says Haley.

Haley says Jacksonville and competitor cities are similar in terms of crime.
