A field trip to a skating rink leads to trouble. Several fights broke out Thursday among the roughly 500 Raines High School students at the Skate Station in Orange Park.

The manager tells our news partner Channel 4 that they had to call in the cops to break up the fights.

"The second and third altercation were the same type of things.  And I believe some of the kids also were standing up to some of the police officers that were here and had to be restrained".

At least two dozen cops were called in to stop the fighting.

Duval County school board officials are hearing a different version of events and are now investigating for themselves.

  • Skating?
Why were high schools students being taken skating???? I could see it if it were elementary kids, maybe even middle school, but high school???

Hey Mike! when do you suppose you could get your head out of the MAYOR'S butt and report the news, ALL the news including reasonable listener viewpoints? I have responded to your articles and stories on nearly every day, yet I only see them once in a while when you deem them to be politically correct! Do you understand that MOST of your audience is just like me? I am a TEACHER, and even some of my students, young men who are mad as hell with the way things as they are in this town, are changing their personal stand on many issues that they now know DIRECTLY affect their lives, even they were on the "other" side of the fence last year! You might as well just spoon feed us the garbage from the mayor and his ilk, and take the "comment" section out of your site.
  • skating brawl
With 500 vikings in one spots violence is inevitable
  • Student fighting
When I was a student in secondary school, we were held to account for our actions! If you did not behave within the rules, you were PUNISHED and not allowed to PARTICIPATE in ANY extra curricular activities! we have here an entire group that at the FIRST incident should have been REMOVED from the skating rink to PREVENT the second, third, etc. Seems to me that POLITICAL CORRECTNESS has gone way out of control yet again, and now society as a whole will have to deal with the consequences of these unruly children for the rest of their lives because a lax in PUNISHMENT protocols! Put the THUGS in JAIL for thirty days to consider the consequences of their actions, and just maybe the THUGS will learn to OBEY THE RULES!
