Rallying Cry for Jaguars Ticket Sales Gets Louder

With five months and counting until the Jaguars kick off another football season, David Garrard is lending his voice to the ticket sales rallying cry.

Saying, if a Super Bowl win can happen for the New Orleans Saints, why can't it happen here, Quarterback David Garrard also stated that you're a necessary ingredient to their shot at bringing home a championship ring.

"I know the buzz is going around the city. We need to continue to grow, because we need you guys in that stadium. We need our 12th man. And we know what a difference you guys make for us," said Garrard.

He, along with Mayor John Peyton and Team Owner Wayne Weaver participated in a Team Teal Rally at Jacksonville City Hall on Thursday. The campaign has sold 5,000 of the 20,000 season tickets they hope fans will purchase by August to avoid more blackouts.

But, are fans getting a mixed message about the future of the Jaguars in Jacksonville? One minute we hear Weaver promising the Jaguars are staying in Jacksonville, then the next minute, we hear Team Teal leaders preaching that if we want to keep the team, we have to sell more tickets.

So, what's the real story?

"Well, we do have to sell those tickets, because the NFL is not going to allow us to be an NFL city when we only have 42,000 people in our stands. It doesn't work," said Weaver.

Weaver says the 5,000 season tickets already sold are more than five times as many ticket sales as they made this time last year. He's confident they'll be able to sell 20,000 season tickets by August. Weaver also acknowledged the financial crisis that has impacted many Jags fans, and he continues to ask anyone who can afford it, to make the committment.

And, in addition to Garrard, Team Teal may get another outspoken show of support from the top man of the NFL.

You may remember from earlier this year, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell repeating what Weaver said: "You can't continue to have an NFL franchise with only 40,000 people in the stadium." Beyond his optimistic report about the Team Teal ticket sales campaign, Weaver is happy that Goodell himself may show up in Jacksonville to rally the fans.

"They've offered to help in any way they can. The commissioner has offered to come down and speak to our community. And we may do that at some point, if we feel like we need that extra boost of energy in the community." says Weaver. "He's very supportive of what we're doing."

You can purchase Jaguars season tickets and qualify for special offers through myteamteal.com. Their offer on the three-year payment plan for season tickets expires at the end of March.

  • Go Jags!
Jacksonville is just a better place with the Jags, especially when the stadium is full and rocking. We have a better city than many people acknowledge, and it will continue to improve if people continue to make the effort.
