A Year Later, Haleigh Search Remains "Active"

In the year since five-year-old Haleigh Cummings went missing from her father's Satsuma home, Putnam County investigators have culled through nearly 6,000 leads, heard from 600 self-described psychics, interviewed 76 different people and checked out 644 reported Haleigh sightings across the country.

And still, there's little evidence about what happened to the little girl.

"We really don't know the circumstances or how she wen missing or who has taken her," Lt. Johnny Greenwood with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday. "We have not recieved any information that Haleigh is not alive. None of the evidence we recovered at the residence at the beginning or any of the information we've received in any of the tips that she is not alive."

Greenwood says the hope that the now six-year-old girl will be found safe and returned to her family is keeping the case active.

"As long as we get tips coming in and leads coming in, we have to keep aggresively working this case," he said.

For much of the past year, investigators have said the key to solving this case lies with Misty Croslin.

Croslin was Haleigh's father's 17-year-old live-in girlfriend at the time of Haleigh's dissapearance and the last person to see the little girl before she went missing..

"I put her to bed about 8 o'clock," Croslin told WOKV's Jared Halpern last February. "And I woke up and she was gone. And that backdoor was wide open."

But Greenwood calls that account "sketchy," saying "physical evidence at the scene" contradicts Misty's account.

However, despite a focus on Croslin, police have not named any persons of intrest, but believe Haleigh was taken by someone known to Croslin and/or Ronald Cummings.

Anyone with information in Haleigh's dissapearance can call Northeast Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS or email the Putnam County Sheriff's Office at haleigh@putnamsheriff.org.
