Attorney Questioning Crosswalk Times Following Child's Death

An attorney is looking into what part Jacksonville crossing signals played in a deadly crash.

Attorney Rick Block is now working on behalf of the Springer Family after 6-year-old Kaitlyn Springer was struck by an SUV on San Jose Boulevard on Saturday. Block says he's had brief conversations with the family of the little girl, but their talks have been painful.

"They're just absolutely devastated," says Block. "This is supposed to be Christmas - a special time for five and six-year-olds, and tomorrow they're going to have to bury one of them."

Jacksonville Police have not released the full report of what occurred in the crash, but they say 38-year-old Nora Springer and her two children were crossing at Kori Road when the crash happened. Officials are investigating why the unidentified SUV driver hit the family. Block also wants to know if 30 or 45 seconds was enough time for them to cross San Jose Boulevard.

"This is San Jose Boulevard, a very, very busy and very wide street. With small children, she just didn't have enough time to get across," says Block. "So, we're very, very concerned about that and obviously I already have our investigators working on that."

Nora Springer was also injured in the crash. No charges have been filed yet.

  • pedestrian run over
This lawyer should have his head examined! the law is that operators of motor vehicles MUST YIELD the right of way to pedestrians, PERIOD! The driver is clearly at fault here, and should be charged with negligent manslaughter as a minimum charge! the light timing thing is purely incidental, and it is a problem at every intersection in this city! Whoever is in charge of programming these traffic signals needs to get a little logic and common sense going, because every high traffic intersection is phased completely wrong! A good example is yet another dangerous one located at I-295 and Blanding, where when you leave one segment, you instantly must stop for the next one, in effect, metering only 5 cars through each stile IF the drivers are alert, which most these days are too busy on their cell phones to be aware of in the first place!
