Retired JSO Cop Injured in Atlantic Blvd Crash
A retired Jacksonville Cop is receiving treatment for critical injuries after being involved in a serious crash on Atlantic Boulevard.

The 60-year-old man and 32-year veteran of JSO was helping lead a funeral procession when the crash occurred on Atlantic Boulevard near Mayfair Road just before 1pm.
Lt. George Grant says the JSO veteran did not have enough time to stop his motorcycle when a 22-year-old woman pulled her Honda Civic out in front of him. After hitting the car, the body of the former cop was thrown 150 feet away from the crash site.
The victim is said to be in critical condition at Shands Hospital right now where he's in surgery. The other driver had no major injuries, but was also transported from the scene. Grant says it's too early to say who's at fault for the crash, and they continue to investigate.
Grant also mentioned that the funeral was for the founder of Bug Out Services - a local bug extermination company. Several of their service vehicles were stopped at the scene as the crash was investigated.
What others are saying
- crashIt is my experience to see these motor officers escorting parades of any sort running a "relay race" to insure that the general public does not intrude into the procession. At times, they do not run sirens, and unfortunately, MANY motorists do not "see" motorcycles at all because they are distracted by many other things instead of being focused on their driving responsibilities! I, being a lifetime rider of motorcycles understands this fact and does not assume that anyone will see me at all until I make direct eye contact with a potential threat to my life on the bike!
