Google Helps Cover WiFi Costs at JIA
Free access to the internet is already provided at Jacksonville International Airport, but starting today, the popular search engine will help cut into the cost of providing that service.
"This really defrays some costs for the airports," says Google Spokesperson Andrew Pederson. "We chose some airports that already had free WiFi network because we're happy they chose to make it free for everybody."
Pederson says Google obviously depends on people using the internet, so they're excited about funding free access at JIA and 45 other airports through January 15th.

Michael Stewart with the Jacksonville Aviation Authority says the money they'll save will help offset operation costs.
"Always a wonderful thing is to have additional revenue streams during these difficult times," says Stewart.
Google will also encourage you to donate to three charities while sponsoring internet access - Engineers Without Borders, One Economy Corporation, and Computer Climate Savers Initiative. Google will match each dollar donated, up until $250,000. Which ever airport raises the most money will also have a $15,000 donation made to the charity of their choice.
What others are saying
- Free WI-FIFree WI-FI is great, but what about the $32,000 each that was spent on two fancy golf carts for the new "Green" shuttle bus service. These things will be trashed in 3 months by the idiots at Republic parking that are operating them for JAA Parking Dept.As if they dont trash the regular buses enough, now we have a whole seperate set of costs to absorb to let Republic Parking operate at JAA, and they do the majority of the damage to the buses and JAA foots the bill.
