Family Dollar Robbery Suspect Shot by Police

Police say the robbery in the 9100 block of Lem Turner Road was reported around 7:30 Saturday night. Several officers responded within minutes.
"There were several officers in the back [of the business]," Sheriff's Office director Dwain Senterfitt told reporters. "When the suspect came out witha gun in his hand, one officer fired several shots striking the suspect."
Senterfitt says 31-year-old Awar Browder was rushed to Shands. The condition of the robbery suspect was not known by Senterfitt, but officers say he was talking at the hospital.
The officer who fired the shots is identified as Eric Long, an 18-year veteran of JSO. No officers were hurt.
Family members of one of the Family Dollar clerks told WOKV's Jared Halpern that the employee suffered minor injuries from a police dog, but the Sheriff's Office could not confirm that report.
"We heard about seven [gunshots], probably seven," Valerie Blackshear told WOKV at the scene. "Just pow, pow, pow, pow, pow. Just like that."
Police could not confirm how many shots Officer Long fired, but say the suspect was armed with a small revolver. The suspect was also seen with a mask and has a long criminal record that also lists him as a sex offender.
