Update--Third Child Dies Following Accident on Lake George
A third child has died following a boating accident Sunday on Lake George, south of Putnam County.
Authorities say a 4 year-old boy and a 14 year-old girl died when their boat got caught in a bad storm.
The Coast Guard said a Mayport-based crew was conducting a training operation on the lake when they came upon on the capsized boat.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the operator of the boat pulled up the anchor while the six occupants went down below the cabin of the boat.
Two waves came over the bow of the boat causing water to build up in the vessel. The vessel then took a wave over the side causing it to roll over and capsize trapping the six people in the cabin.
Rescuers helped upright the boat and pulled the victims out.
The two children who died have been identified:
4 year-old Dennis Lennon of Umatilla
14 year-old Ciara Puskas of Eustis
5 year-old, Cole Bizuk of Fernandina Beach, who had been hospitalized after the accident.
Another occupant, 36 year-old Ann Lennon of Umatilla, was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
Fish and Wildlife officials say all of the juveniles on board, with the exception of Ciara Puskas, were wearing PFD's at the time of the accident.
