Family's Tips Lead to Murder Suspect's Arrest
A Sanderson murder suspect is sitting in the Baker County jail this morning, charged with the Wednesday night killing of his 56-year-old neighbor.
Police were called to a home after reports of gunshots near CR 229 in Sanderson shortly after 7 p.m. The homeowner was discovered dead in the front yard, though police are not saying how the victim died and early reports indicate he was not shot to death.
Police also learned from neighbors that Aaron Fox, 25, was seen driving away from the area in the victim's stolen pick-up truck. That launched a massive dragnet for Fox, who records indicate, has lengthy criminal history in Baker County.
Baker County Sheriff Joey Dobson told reporters Wednesday night that Fox may try fleeing to Jacksonville's westside to meet his girlfriend.
Instead, the suspect was discovered at 12:45 a.m. just five miles from the murder scene.
"Information came to us that he was on the road there and we'd be able to find him," Sheriff Joey Dobson told WOKV. "Once he was in the vehicle, we were able to make a felony stop on him."
Dobson tells WOKV the tips leading police to Fox were made by Fox's own family.
Detectives are now talking with Fox trying to find a motive. Fox and the victim were neighbors and it's believed an argument may have led to an altercation and the murder.
WOKV's Jared Halpern is learning more about the suspect and victim and will update the story thoughout the day.
