Baker County Man Murdered Day Before Birthday

Sheriff Joey Dobson says they were able to catch 25-year-old Aaron Fox six hours after the attack with the help of the suspect's mother and sister.
Fox's mother allegedly overheard her son talking with an unknown person about going to the victim's home, located about 50 feet away. She told authorities that she tried to call and warn 56-year-old Sterling Howell, but he didn't answer her phone call.
When deputies arrived at the Sanderson home, Howell's body was found in the front yard with a blanket placed over it. He had multiple stab wounds to the neck, head and torso. Investigators say Fox also took the victim's truck.
Baker County deputies also heard from Fox's sister who worked with authorities to locate the suspect. Fox reportedly got scared when he saw reports about the crime on television and contacted his sister. She picked him up in her own vehicle. Deputies followed behind, then arrested him a short time later. He was caught six hours after the attack.
At a Thursday hearing, Fox was charged with pre-meditated murder and grand theft. Investigators believe the suspect was originally attempting to rob Howell of his banking information.
Sheriff Joey Dobson says Howell was killed the night before his 57th birthday. His family members are in shock, and are coming from as far away as New York.
