Four construction workers were sent to Shands hospital, two with serious injuries, after a driver veered off the roadway on Jacksonville's westside.

According to investigators the accident occurred around 9pm on Tuesday. As the construction crew laid water lines along Cahoon near I-10, the driver of a white Camaro came through the orange cones and hit the workers.

Paramedics arrived and took the workers to Shands Hospital, where at least one is listed in critical condition and a second victim has a serious injury.

The driver is said to be okay and is in police custody. Investigators were unable to tell WOKV whether the driver may have been under the influence of any substance while driving. No charges have been filed. His vehicle was towed away with severe front-end damage.

After two hours of investigating the crash, Jacksonville Police reopened the neighborhood roadway and construction resumed.
