Woman: Mother Used Piles Of Animals To Keep Warm
An elderly New Smyrna Beach woman is now in the care of the Department of Children and Families after being found living in deplorable conditions on Thanksgiving day...
About 50 cats, 20 ducks and 15 turkeys were taken from the Glencoe Road home after deputies went to check on the 84 year old woman.
Deputies found an overwhelming smell of cat urine, and that animal feces covered the floors in nearly every room. They said the home had no working bathrooms.
The woman's 54-year-old daughter, Mary Bosket was arrested on a neglect charge.
Two dead cats were also found in a freezer, where they were being stored until they could be cremated, Bosket told sheriff's deputies.
Bosket's mother was using a faulty oxygen machine and suffers from congestive heart failure, deputies said.
She told authorities that she had lived at a nursing home, but now lived in the home alone. She said that Bosket stopped by occasionally to help care for all the animals.
She told police her elderly mother kept warm by covering herself with the animals...
