Police Arrest Three Suspects in Putnam Murder
Police in Putnam County arrest three men for the murder of an elderly Pomona Park man in October.
Cecil Mills, 65, was found shot to death outside his daughter's Cherry Street home around 1:30 p.m. October 27. Police believe he had stopped by the house and interrupted a burglary.
"He saw the door open and somebody there who wasn't supposed to be there...and the suspects in the burglary ended up shooting him multiple times," Maj. Keith Riddick tells WOKV.
Over the weekend, Palatka city police arrested Johnny Lutrell Jones, 24, on an unrelated charge. During the course of his interview, he provided information confirming his involvement in the murder and named two other suspects in the case. Putnam County Sheriff's deputies arrested Lamon Antonio Riley, 24, a short time later.
The third suspect, 24 year-old Charles Edward Coring III, was arrested today.
"It's great just to have the case solved," Riddick says. "And the arrests are awesome. This is a case that really upset everybody. This old man just happened to stop by the house...they could have tied him up. They didn't have to shoot him and shoot him over and over again."
