A 62-year-old Jacksonville man is dead after he's struck by a speeding Sheriff's office cruiser late Sunday night.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Eddie Odom was riding his bicycle on West 9th Street and Myrtle Avenue around 10 p.m. when investigators say he failed to yield to the emergency vehicle and was struck.

26-year-old Sheriff's Officer Nathan Long was not hurt in the accident. Investigators say the officer had his vehicle's lights activated while responding to a call. Odom's bicycle did not have required lighting. The bicyclist was also not wearing a helmet.

According to the accident report, Officer Long is not facing any charges in the crash.
