Toy Mega Store Opens On The Southside
The store is a 74,000 square foot Toys'R'Us/Babys'R'Us combo.
CEO and Jacksonville Native Gerry Storch says they chose Jacksonville because of strong local growth.
"We got a great opportunity to open up on Towncenter parkway, right of J. Turner Butler here, and it was too good to pass up," Storch said.
He says they have had a soft opening for the past couple days and have seen a surprisingly strong response from Jacksonville.
"It's a great market and it is growing rapidly. Lots of kids here," Storch said.
The only larger store is the store in Manhattan in New York City which Storch said is the city's number one tourist destination.
There are 13 similar stores include one in Tampa and they plan to open several more around the US but none as big as the new store.
The grand opening of the store started on Thursday and continues through Friday.
