A weak economy leads to a big job fair.

FCCJ held a job fair Wednesday that nearly tripled its normal size, with about 1000 local people seeking work.

Carl Brewer with F-C-C-J blames the economy is responsible for the increased turn out.

"Obviously people are out of work. People are having a hard time making it," Brewer said.

However, he says the first coast is faring well and they had lots of employers with lots of openings. He says one company even reported having 100 open positions.

He says they normally only run a job fair in the spring when students are about to graduate but decided before the recent crisis to hold another job fair this fall.

"Because we are a community college we look at ways to help our community and this was why we went ahead and conducted it in the month of October this year," Brewer said.

He said they might have another job fair if the economy deteriorates further.
