A First Coast teenager is being recognized for his scientific achievement in Washington DC.

17-year-old Nathan Georgette, a senior at Neese High School, has a strong interest in mathematics and medicine, and that led him to develope a novel mathematical model intended to reduce the costs of stopping viral disease outbreaks in poor countries.  "Still hundreds of thousands of childfen die from measles every year, despite the fact that vaccines have been available for about 40 years," said Georgette.

He's one of 20 students in the country to receive the Davidson Fellows scholarship.  He's getting a $10,000 scholarship for his achievement in science, and he'll be meeting today with Senators Bill Nelson and Mel Martinez.
