Restoring The River
The river is sick according to Mayor John Peyton who stated during his budget address that Jacksonville must continue to fund restoration efforts.
"A siginificant part of our responsibility lies with improving the very lifeline that defines downtown, and that is the magnificent St. Johns River," said Peyton.
At the same time, Jacksonville is currently fighting Central Florida over the St. Johns. Seminole County and the City of Cocoa want to draw millions of gallons from the river to meet their water needs, which Northeast Florida officials claim will be detrimental for our surroundings.
What others are saying
- st. john's riverThe study was authored by Jacksonville U. and University of North Florida and fails to account for any kind of natural fix and as usual blames human activity for a 'sick' St. John's. Problem is Florida has been fighting a drought, as well as thr myriad of goverment regulations that have done more to hurt than help.
Way to go, Neil Armingeon, the pot-bellied pig of the Riverkeeper.
