Utilities Get Federal Aid To Purchase Generators
Florida utilities get federal dollars to make sure electricity keeps flowing at wastewater stations during a disaster.
They're getting $400,000 to purchase a pool of new generators to be used by several public utilities.
"Consequently prevent the sewerage pump stations from functioning properly and hopefully prevent any type of backups into peoples homes or businesses," says Scott Kelly with JEA.
Kelly says one generator could pump-down up to ten pump stations.
It's uncertain whether they'll be in place by the end of this hurricane season.
