City Hall Under The Microscope Again
Fresh off one audit, Jacksonville City Hall will be under the microscope once again.
"This is not an audit. This is not an adversarial study. This is very, very straight forward," Executive Director of Jacksonville Community Council Skip Cramer said.
He said they will study the government for about a year and then spend the next two years making recommendations to the city for ways to improve how they are spending your money.
He says their ultimate goal is to make it more clear how the city brings in and spends tax dollars.
"To try to bring some transparency to the overall city funding and spending process," Cramer said.
He says they will look at the obligations the city faces and how they will pay for them.
"Clear the air and tone down the rhetoric when we talk about paying for government services," Cramer added.
He says the study will be called "Our money, Our city: Financing Jacksonville's Future".
Mayor John Peyton says he welcomes the study.
"The more set of eyes we have on some of the long term challenges for this government, the better the city is served," Peyton said.
He said he is most interested in seeing what recommendations JCCI can make for address the city's growing pension liability.
