An woman from Wellborn is dead after a police officer says he accidentally ran her over.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the incident happened just before 2 a.m. at a home on county Road 2054, northwest of Gainesville.

Alachua Officer Chad Scott was responding to a domestic disturbance in the city of Alachua, when, as the officer was driving up the dirt driveway, he noticed someone laying in front of his car.

Scott says he tried to swerve but wasn't quick enough to avoid hitting her.

33-year-old Angela Tanner was pronounced dead at the scene.  Police say she was part of the original disturbance.

The FHP says the death was an accident and said no charges would be filed.
