Local Congressman Challenged to Debate
The Democratic challenger to a local Republican congressman challenges him to series of debates.
Democrat Jay McGovern is running against the incumbent Ander Crenshaw for the 4th district seat in the US House of Representatives.
He has sent a letter to the Crenshaw challenging him to debate in each of nine counties in the district.
"So the voters can have a side by side comparison of the challenger and the incumbent." McGovern said.
He says he would let Crenshaw set the schedule for the debates but would expect them to begin in August.
In a written response, Crenshaw did not rule out the possibility of debates but said any campaign activity would have to wait until September.
What others are saying
- debatesI'd be surprised if Crenshaw accepts. I wouldn't want to debate if I had such an abysmal voting record either.
- DebatesI think having a debate in all the counties that make up the 4th district is a great idea.
- Jay McGovernI totally agree, Jim. Especially since even when he bothers to respond, it's a canned response.
- Jay McGovernIt's about time Cong. Crenshaw responded to one of his constituents. Let's see what happens before September.
