The Don Brewer Early Learning Center could remain open.

The contract would be between the city, Florida Community College at Jacksonville and Chappell Child Development Centers.

Misty Skipper with the mayor's office says once finalized they would not have to foot the entire bill.

"It's going to be significantly reduced, we're still working to finalize the contract with them but it will be significantly less than the in excess of $800,000 that we were paying each year in operational costs," says Misty Skipper with the mayor's office.

Skipper says they paid $840,000 in operational costs every year.

The deal includes the city paying for maintenance of the building and utilities.

It still has to be approved by the city council and FCCJ's board.

If all goes well new management takes over in the fall.
