Jacksonville completes work on a new water pump designed to keep San Marco above water.

Now the second pump in the area, Mayor John Peyton opened the Children's Way Pump Station Thursday

"This problem has been going on in San Marco for as long as I can remember, and I was born in San Marco practically 44-years ago.  It's been a real challenge. When we have a hard rain, a full moon and a high tide all at once it is almost certain that San Marco, at least the road ways, go underwater," Peyton said.

The mayor says these two pumps should be enough to keep the streets dry.

He says they were able to fund the pump because of revenue brought in from the storm water fee.

He says they are aware of flooding in other parts of the county and claims that funds from the storm water fee will help them address those issues much more quickly then in the past.
