Mother Gathers Baseball Gear for Soldier Son
On his second tour in Iraq, there is one thing Specialist Rafael Delgado knows he needs...Baseball gear.
The 27-year old medic is on his second tour in Iraq and that is what he told his mother he wanted when she asked.
"Find someone here in Jacksonville that will donate baseball bats, gloves and balls so they can all play over there in Iraq," his mother Gilda Sanchez said.
So she turned to her church and her employer Baptist Medical Center to try and round up equipment to send over.
"The church started collecting from a lot of local baseball teams," Sanchez said.
Then Baptist Medical asked the Jacksonville Suns for help.
"Baptist contacted Jacksonville Suns. And they sent me a box full of stuff. And they still have more stuff for me. And I still have more stuff to pick up from church," Sanchez said.
She says she has told her son about all the equipment she has collected and that he is very excited to get the chance to play.
She says she will send it soon, and it will take about three weeks to reach Iraq.
