PALM BAY, Fla. (AP) __ Investigators are searching for the arsonists who apparently started nine fires around a city on Florida's Atlantic coast.

Firefighters in Brevard County are trying for the third day to contain fires that have scorched about 3,800 acres -- or 6 square miles -- in Palm Bay and neighboring Malabar.

Officials worry about overnight flare-ups and the flames spreading quickly in the dry conditions.

The worst fires are in Malabar, while officials say they have ``a majority'' of the Palm Bay fires contained.

Palm Bay police are working with the state fire marshall's office and Brevard County Fire Rescue to investigate who the fires.

About 100 homes have been destroyed or damaged.
